More from Averoy

Here is the view from my lodgings on Averoy. I stayed in a house with 6 other women who were all glass artists and taking classes as well. I was the only non-Norwegian taking classes. I would like to say that I learned some Norwegian - but, just a few words. However, it was my first real experience listening to conversation. Before this I mostly only heard Norwegian in passing or in stores as part of a transaction, but here I could listen and catch the cadence of the language. It has tones to it (the only European language that does) and so it is sing-songy to us and very pretty.
Here is my friend Annemarie with whom I traveled to GlasForum . We shared a room and got to know each other quite well on this trip. This was our classroom - spacious and sunny with lots of expensive equipment.

And here is some of the expensive equipment I intend to buy when I get back.
This is a stave kirke (stave church) on Averoy. The next post will show the interior. THese churches are very old, many of them were first built in the 1100s, but many have been rebuilt (say in the 1500s) or renovated and redecorated in later periods. Still, they are vvery old and each one is different.
